Congrats to Rev. Holmes Rolston III

Rev. Holmes Rolston III was recently awarded the Templeton Prize for Progress Toward Research or Discoveries about Spiritual Realities. The prize honors work on such matters as love, creativity, purpose, infinity, intelligence, thanksgiving and prayer. The prize was 725,000 British Pounds, or about $1.2 Million. This makes the Templeton the world's richest prize for religion. Rev. Rolston plans to use the entire amount to endow a chair in religion and science at his alma mater, Davidson College in North Carolina.

At a news conference to announce the award, Rev. Rolston said, "I've spent my life in a lover's quarrel, not with my wife of four decades, but with the two disciplines I love: science and religion. ... I had to fight--or maybe better, challenge--both theology and science to love nature."

Rev. Rolston will receive the prize at a private ceremony May 7 in Buckingham Palace in London. Since 1968, Rev. Rolston has taught philosophy at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where he holds the title of university distinguished professor.
